Investment Office

Community Engagement

Our work reflects Brown’s dedication to engagement with the diverse range of views represented among members of our community.

As part of Brown’s strong commitment to community engagement, the Investment Office routinely participates in a range of activities and programs where staff benefit from the insights and perspectives of faculty, students, staff and alumni.

Advisory Support

We provide support to Brown’s Advisory Committee on University Resources Management (ACURM) to execute the proxy voting process concerning issues of social responsibility related to Brown’s direct investments.

In addition, we actively engage with any student or faculty group advocating for issues related to investment policies or practices to help them understand how the endowment is invested and real options for making an impact on the issues about which they are concerned.

Guest Lecturing

We support classes with relevance to investing, such as Environment Studies 1545, “Theory and Practice of Sustainable Investing” and Economics 1780, “Advanced Topics in Corporate Finance.”

Office Internships and ESG-Focused Research

We host both a summer and academic-year internship program. In any given year, there are up to six academic-year interns working in the office pursuing a number of different research projects. The contributions of interns to Brown’s ESG-focused research has been invaluable

Student-Led Investment Groups

We provide guidance, trading and operational support to Brown’s student-run investment groups, including Brown Investment Group (BIG) and the Socially Responsible Investment Fund (SRIF). We also support the Brown University Sustainable Investment Fund (BUSIF), the endowment’s sustainable sleeve formed in 2017 with input from students.
